So, you think you're doing a pretty good job in terms of computer security on your home PC? You've kept your computer fully patched against the latest vulnerabilities? You've ensured that your PC is running the latest-and-greatest anti-virus updates?
Good for you.
Now, how about your router?
My suspicion is that the typical computer user doesn't give a second thought about whether their router could be harbouring a security threat, imagining that the devices don't need to be treated with suspicion.
But if you think that, you're quite wrong. Read full article here
This IDC white paper discusses the benefits associated with a move from Windows XP to Windows 7 and presents a case for the many reasons why remaining with Windows XP is no longer a good business decision. Several readers have asked me my opinion of SOPA, the Stop Online Piracy Act. I fear that in this case, the devil is in the details, so I find it hard to reach a strong view. But I have been disturbed by the relatively knee-jerk reaction of the anti-SOPA crowd. This is a hard issue, and when someone makes it sound easy, I feel like they haven't thought it through very thoroughly.
The anti-SOPA crowd argues that this is a matter of basic liberty. But it's not. In a free society, you don't have the freedom to steal your neighbor's property. And that should include intellectual property. Continue to read at Greg Mankiw's Blog..
Well, here is just the right tool for monitoring all data in and out of your PC through the internet connection. Best thing about it is that it is open source and all free without any adware or sharewares coming bundled with.
So what is it? It is called BitMeter 2. Some of the features I found very useful are that, it can visually show all data in and out live, as well as historical data based on time, be it hourly or daily and it can be set to alert you when, a certain usage limit is reached. Depending on the service your ISP is providing, you might have a usage limit per month. So, it is a good thing to know exactly when your data usage [total downloads/uploads] limit is going to reach before the month ends and how much data usage is remaining in a very convenient way.

There is no doubt about the level of freedom humankind has reached in terms of accessibility of information. The dramatic change occurred to the way knowledge is acquired, by the birth of the internet and evolution of related technologies through continuous refinement and improvement, has made it possible for almost anyone to gain access to information with relative ease. Most sources of academic materials, or so called academic databases are not free. Perhaps, these databases can be made available for free too. One might wonder in such a situation, whether academia has to be made completely free for everyone universally.
Information, can be categorized into meaningless, misleading, bad, useless, good, authentic, quality etc. The information available for free can be good or bad depending on the motive and intention of the publisher or source. Academic journals, articles, books and the like are deemed authentic good quality sources of knowledge as, they are written to serve a specific purpose. That is, to pass on the knowledge to the seekers. Access to these materials have always been restricted to the seekers’ eyes only.

I am making this post mainly for my uni mates because I have met many students who have no idea whether ArchiCAD is available for free or not. And no idea at all how or where to get it from.
Having said that, I am sure it will also be of some benefit to any one who wants to find out how and from where to download ArchiCAD for free. I would also like to mention it here that ArchiCAD is not available as a free download for commercial use.
However, it is available for registered students and teachers worldwide. The academic version of ArchiCAD gives the same functionality and full features as the professional version.
And for those who might have stumbled upon here who have no idea what ArchiCAD is please note that, ArchiCAD is a professional software application designed for architects for designing and development of architectural drawings in 2D and 3D complete with project documentation from start to end.
